Can I easily make a ftp site where people who I give a password can login and download a song?

I have a website, but don't know how to create a temporary ftp site where people can login and download a song file. I'm attending a large music conference and instead of giving out thousands of promotional cd's I want to hand out small pieces of paper with download instructions. I can send my mp3's by email to a percentage of conference attendents, but I won't know the email address of passersby. I also don't want to make my songs available for free download to everybody, just certain people.

Probably better to have a password protected directory on your website. Making an FTP site can be a royal pain, especially for such a short term thing. On the other hand if you want long term use, and the web site is totally your own, its a good idea, worth the effort, but will require some good code. Easy enough in Frontpage, somewhat more involved in other editors.
Reply:What I do is I have my friends and contacts install GigaTribe http://www.gigatribe.com and invite them (or vice-versa) into my network, that way they have access to my music folder on my pc; they can explore it and download what they want (I'm in a band looking for a record deal).


I also let my friends access my pictures folder, so they can view in thumbnail all my pictures before they download ones that interest them... With GigaTribe there's no limit to the file sizes downloaded either, so they can even download your promotional video if you have one. The software is free by the way...
Reply:free file sharing sites have password protected downloads , there is no coding only a link and a password needed, you could give them your site and let them know there is an offsite link to get the file, you would only need to give them your site and a password, if you have many users make several accounts and tell certain users use link one and make that password specific to it..etc.., its all free and very simple one site is www.sharebigfile.com and there are plenty more, just google free file sharing
