How do I download a song from a URL?

I have the URL of the website. When you write it into the address bar, the song plays on the Windows Media Player. Is there a way to actually DOWNLOAD the song? I have put it into my playlist, but it seems that the file is not located on my computer. Is there anyway to download the song onto my computer?

How do I download a song from a URL?
I can give you a workaround method with notepad.

Open up notepad, copy and paste:

%26lt;html%26gt;%26lt;body%26gt;

%26lt;a href="URL"%26gt;SONG%26lt;/a%26gt;

%26lt;/body%26gt;%26lt;/html%26gt;

Replace "URL" with your url (Keep the quotation marks).

In notepad go to File - Save As. put it on your desktop, you can delete it later. name it song.html, in file type change *.txt to All files.

when you open it you'll have a page with a link to your song, then you can Right-Click the link and use "Save Target As"

Of course there's a lot of download managers out there that can do it for you (http://www.netants.com/ - quick install/uninstall, easy management, low memory usage), or SOMETIMES windows media player lets you save it from it's File menu, but not always. You or you can make Internet explorer save it by changing it's settings etc. But this is quick and painless :)

Edit: Any text editor would do. Wordpad, doc editor... Kate editor if you have linux (or KWord) I don't know what mac has :)

What operating system do you have? If it's wondows you do have notepad. C:/Windows/system32/ notepad.exe or Start-%26gt;Programs-%26gt;Accessories -%26gt;Notepad

Edit 2: so... you have NOTHING on your computer that allows you to type? :S

Hard to believe you uninstalled EVERYTHING.

Maybe try http://www.notepad.org/

(I see why you uninstalled wordpad, but how'd you kill notepad?)

Use Netants, Media player or a new text editor... http://www.notepad.org/
Reply:ok when u do save target as and it saves on ur desktop and i play the song it needs the internet in order to play, so its not really downloaded. i want it to b downloaded so i can tranfer to my ipod. is there a way to do that. thx Report Abuse

Reply:While the file is playing in Windows Media Player, click on File--%26gt;Save As...

If this option is available, the file will be saved to your local computer.

If it is not available, the content most likely has Digital Rights Management that is embedded into the file and downloading is disabled.
Reply:Right click and view source. Look for the actual url of the song. It may have a suffix of mp3, wma, or wav. Put the url in the address bar and press return. A download should start.
